MACY’S has confirmed the shuttering of yet another one of its stores, as locations across the country suffer mass closures.
The retail giant is set to close 66 stores in 2025.
The Macy’s department store at the Kitsap Mall in Silverdale, Washington – 35 miles outside Seattle – is scheduled to close.
A post made to the “Retail Dead or Alive” Facebook page showed a picture of the storefront, with a surplus of “closing” signs.
Some of the signs advertised sales up to 60% off.
’s caption reported that the store will close on March 23.
The closures are part of the company’s “Bold New Chapter” strategy, which was announced in February 2024.
The three-year plan involves downsizing the company’s 350 locations to approximately 200 by the end of 2026.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s store to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” Macy’s chairman and CEO Tony Spring said in a press release.
In addition to the Silverdale store, two more Washington branches are set to close in the Seattle area, in Redmond and South Hill.
Macy’s currently has 15 locations in Washington state.
The New York-based retailer is a “trusted source for quality brands,” according to its website.
MACY’S MINIMIZING
The Bold New Chapter strategy will see 150 Macy’s stores get the ax by the end of the fiscal year in 2026.
The plan includes refurbishing and update existing stores, and pushing its top performers.
The locations are set to close in 8 to 12 weeks, according to Axios.
Locations are slated to close across 22 states and several major cities.
Additionally, the company plans to invest in its Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury store portfolios.
It plans to open around 30 new standalone Macy’s, 15 Bloomingdales, and 30 Bluemercury stores as part of its Bold New Chapter plan.
“We are making the necessary moves to reinvigorate relationships with our customers through improved shopping experiences, relevant assortments, and compelling value,” Spring said.
