It’s Day 38 of the Chicago Bears offseason. Does anyone want to call their shot and predict the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer for next year’s game? I don’t think anyone would’ve predicted Kendrick Lamar this time last year, so take that for whatever it’s worth. Just let it be good and culturally relevant. Having Kendrick perform at the peak of his powers and hitting the stage one week after winning five Grammys is unlike what we’re used to for the halftime show. Who’s next?
A peek behind the curtain: Patrick, Matt, and I chopped it up yesterday and discussed what we’d like the offseason to look like at BN Bears, and I can’t front — I’m looking forward to the stuff we’re going to create and share between now and the start of free agency. And the pre-draft stuff will be good, too. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. All eyes are on free agency until March 10, when the free agent negotiation period begins. Here’s hoping our readers like consuming and sharing offensive and defensive line content because it looks like we will have a bunch of it between now and the start of free agency. After the smoke clears on the first wave of free agency, we’ll likely double up and ramp it up between that point on the football calendar and the NFL Draft.NFL OFFSEASON 2025: Important Dates and When to Expect the Bears to Do Things
NEW HEAD COACHES AROUND THE NFL: ? Ben Johnson ? Brian Schottenheimer ? Liam Coen ☠️ Pete Carroll ? Mike Vrabel ✈️ Aaron Glenn ⚜️ Kellen Moore
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@bn-bears.bsky.social) February 11, 2025 at 11:40 AM ESPN’s Adam Schefter lists the NFL offseason’s five most interesting teams to keep tabs on … but does so while not naming the Bears. YOUR LIST IS INVALID, SIR! I kid, I kid. It’s a good list with some compelling non-Bears teams. One of the things I love about the NFL is that any of the league’s 32 teams can be truly intriguing with the right timing, some smart usage of cap space, and impeccable timing. Even the worst teams have a path to travel for a come-up story. It keeps everyone engaged in some capacity. A ridiculously early set of NFL power rankings is up at The Athletic. As you might expect, the Bears rank nowhere near the top. Chicago’s football team comes in a No. 24, which is a move up three spots from the team’s post-regular season ranking of 27th. Here’s the skinny from Josh Kendall:If new Bears head coach Ben Johnson is as good as everyone expects him to be (although let’s be honest, it’s always a crapshoot), then the NFC North will be the new cradle of coaches. Campbell, Kevin O’Connell and LaFleur have already proved their chops, which is the reason it’s a little surprising this is the job Johnson decided to take.
I love that there are still people surprised that the Bears were able to stick the landing and reel in Ben Johnson as their head coach. © David Banks-Imagn Images An old friend finds a new home as Chris Tabor (Bears Special Teams Coordinator from 2018-21) is joining the Buffalo Bills to coach that team’s special teams unit. (Pro Football Talk) The Las Vegas Raiders announced their coaching staff under Pete Carroll and there are a bunch of assistants with Chicago connections including Chris Beatty (Bears WRs Coach in 2024), Greg Olson (Bears QBs Coach in 2003), Luke Steckel (Bears Assistant OL Coach in 2023), and Darius Swinton II (Bears Assistant Special Teams Coach in 2015 and 2017). LOL. The Jets reportedly told Aaron Rodgers that ditching his Pat McAfree Show appearances was a must for him if he was going to move forward as the team’s quarterback. Since we know that’s not happening, I fully expect the Rodgers breakup in New York to be on par with the stuff you read in supermarket tabloids. Get your popcorn ready.
