Grant applications are now open for San Diego County nonprofits and community organizations working to advance sustainability efforts in the region.
San Diego Community Power, San Diego Foundation and Calpine Energy Solutions announced Tuesday the launch of the third cycle of Community Clean Energy Grants, with an anticipated $600,000 in funding available.
Grant sizes will range from $25,000 to $100,000, and each applicant is eligible to receive a maximum of $125,000, organizers said.
The grants must support energy literacy, education, electrification, green workforce development or energy resiliency. Proposed projects or programs must benefit Community Power customers in communities including Chula Vista, Encinitas, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, National City, San Diego and unincorporated areas.
“These grants have already allowed local nonprofits to bring new resources to the communities they serve, whether it’s by creating opportunities to learn about clean energy in our schools or helping local families install solar panels on their homes,” Imperial Beach Mayor and Community Power Board Chair Paloma Aguirre said.
Since the program’s inception in 2023, $1.5 million has been distributed to nonprofits across San Diego County. The initiative is part of San Diego Foundation’s Fifty & Forward Campaign, which aims to grant $500 million toward education, families and environmental initiatives in the region.
The application period opened Feb. 10, with an informational webinar scheduled for Feb. 13. Applications are due by March 14.
