Joe Rogan praised Dricus Du Plessis for beating Sean Strickland more definitively in their title-fight rematch at UFC 312.
After edging him out by split decision in their first fight at UFC 297, middleweight champion Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) left no doubt when he picked up a dominant decision win over Strickland (29-7 MMA, 16-7 UFC) in Saturday’s headliner at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
Du Plessis obliged to Strickland’s pre-fight pact by predominantly keeping the fight on the feet, breaking his nose in the process. UFC commentator and popular podcast host Rogan was impressed with the South African’s performance.
“DDP fought really well, man,” Rogan said on his “JRE Fight Companion.” “He’s a tough puzzle to figure out – a very tough fight to figure out. He’s a big f*cker for 185 (pounds), too. That’s a big f*cker. He did a f*cking great job of setting up, throwing that low kick, switch kick to the body, and kept that pace up for the entire five (rounds). … He keeps getting better.”
After the fight, Du Plessis issued UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira a challenge, but not before facing Khamzat Chimaev first. Rogan warns Du Plessis of “Poatan’s” power.
“Yeah, that’s ‘night-night when you get touched’ game,” Rogan said.
