Securing transparency — the case for municipal public meeting portals

In today’s digital world, providing access to public meeting information while protecting the data is essential. A secure online portal allows everyone to safely access official records. This dedicated portal safeguards recordings against potential misuse, exploitation, and manipulation. While platforms like YouTube present risks of unauthorized access and misuse of content.

It can feel overwhelming trying to find trustworthy digital information online. The City of Greeley is committed to making information accessible to residents. To support this goal, the city implemented CivicClerk, a meeting management tool. This tool streamlines access to municipal meeting records through a secure online portal. Residents can find meeting videos, agendas, notes, and discussion topics — all in one secure and reliable location. Residents can access the portal by visiting the City of Greeley’s website or directly at greeleyco.portal.civicclerk.com.

This secure public meeting portal is an important step toward greater transparency and trust in local governance. By ensuring that official records remain both accessible and protected, we’re reinforcing our commitment to keeping residents informed and engaged. We invite you to explore this new tool and take part in shaping Greeley’s future through informed civic participation.

Support the Taxpayer Data Protection Act

I am writing to urge you to support the Taxpayer Data Protection Act. This is in response to the news that Elon Musk and his DOGE staff have access to your personal information to include name, SSN, DOB, address and your banking information. This act will protect your financial, personal, medical and confidential information. Our privacy and data security are being compromised.

Since this is a Democratic sponsored bill, it may not see a vote if you do not contact your representative to ask for it to be voted on. This is not a partisan issue; it is our right as citizens to have our data protected and not subject to scrutiny by folks with no right to our information. Since there is no real transparency as to what this information is being used for, I fear our data may be compromised or our tax returns or Social Security checks may be tampered with. If it’s true our information is being placed on private servers and examined by AI, this risks our data being hacked or accidentally released. This data is robust — anything the IRS or Social Security has on file is at risk. It’s frightening to think about the implications this would have for each of us if the data were misused or corrupted.

Please act now to help protect all of our data from abuse. I see no reason why any American would oppose this bill. Contact your congressional and Senate representatives today!
