The head of community interaction sector at the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Mohamed Ibrahim on Friday announced penalties against real estate marketing companies that do not register their numbers with the NTRA and make calls from private numbers.
In a phone interview with TV host Amr Adib on the “al-Hekaya” (The Story) show broadcast, Ibrahim explained that the authority issued a regulatory framework for marketing via phone calls in July.
Any company that wants to operate legally must register the phone line with the mobile service provider to which it belongs as a marketing line.
The name of the company calling users will show on the screen, and they reserve the right to answer or not.
Ibrahim pointed out that despite this, there are some companies that use personal numbers for marketing, noting that the NTRA has referred these companies to the Public Prosecution.
He added that the authority sent warnings to these numbers, before converting them to receiving lines only.
Ibrahim pointed out that some marketers have bypassed this by purchasing new lines, indicating that the NTRA discovered the matter and sent them warnings to register their numbers.
If they do not register, the phone itself will be closed, not the SIM card, he said, in addition to them being referred to the Public Prosecution.
