Anthony Davis understands a large group of Dallas Mavericks fans are not necessarily overjoyed to see his arrival. The former Kentucky star and one of the best players in Wildcats history was the central piece obtained by the franchise in the stunning trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Even if Davis is a star player in his own right, his main shortcoming for some fans is that he is simply not Doncic. But Davis is not upset by those kinds of feelings from fans.
At his introductory press conference, Davis said he understands fans getting upset because he knows what Doncic meant to the city and the fanbase. However, his goal is to showcase why he was brought to Dallas in the deal and wants to “get the city life back” with his performance.
“I understand it,” said Davis about a disgruntled fan response. “Obviously it’s a business and I get who Luka was to this franchise, to this city. I’m never going to downplay that, just how I know what I meant to the city of LA.
“I’m not surprised by the fan’s reaction and the city’s reaction. But my job is to come in and play basketball and do what I’m supposed to do and give the fans hope and reassurance on why Niko brought me here… At the end of the day, I’m going to get the city life back.”
