As expected, the Chicago Cubs today announced their non-roster invites to big league Spring Training. The full list is below, with the reminder that these are the NON-40-MAN players who are coming to big league camp. So if you’re wondering where someone obvious is, pretty good bet they’re on the 40-man, so, yes, they’ll be there.
You know the minor league deal veterans already, but there are a host of prospects who got the invite, too, including pitchers like Antonio Santos (potential breakout), Riley Martin, Cade Horton, and Brandon Birdsell, as well as positional prospects like Jonathon Long, Matt Shaw, James Triantos, Brett Bateman, and Christian Franklin. A couple catching prospects will get in some work, too, in Moises Ballesteros and Pablo Aliendo. Love it.
These aren’t necessarily all guys who have a chance to make the big league team on Opening Day, but getting to be in big league camp, around veterans and the coaching staff, can be huge for their development.

“The Chicago Cubs have invited the following 20 non-roster players to 2025 major league Spring Training, which begins Sunday, February 9 when pitchers and catchers have their first formal workout at the club’s Nike Performance Center in Mesa, Ariz. The team’s first full-squad workout will take place Friday, February 14.
The following 10 pitchers have been invited to major league camp: right-handed pitchers Phil Bickford, Brandon Birdsell, Ben Heller, Cade Horton, Brad Keller, Brooks Kriske, Trevor Richards and Antonio Santos, as well as left-handed pitchers Brandon Hughes and Riley Martin.
Four infielders have been invited to major league camp: Jonathon Long, Nicky Lopez, Matt Shaw and James Triantos.
Two outfielders have been invited to major league camp: Brett Bateman and Christian Franklin.
Four catchers have been invited to major league camp: Pablo Aliendo, Moisés Ballesteros, Reese McGuire and Carlos Pérez.”
