New Albany warehouse shooting: a timeline of events

NEW ALBANY, Ohio (WCMH) -- A shooting at a New Albany warehouse Tuesday night sparked a large search Wednesday from law enforcement agencies across central Ohio.

Authorities said Bruce Reginald Foster III allegedly shot six people, resulting in one death, at the KDC/One building on Smith's Mill Road. Roughly 12 hours later, Foster was arrested in a Columbus neighborhood not far from Ohio State's campus and charged with aggravated murder.

    New Albany officials are scheduled to provide updates in a news conference at 4 p.m. from Village Hall. You can watch the news conference live in the player above.

    10:20 p.m. Tuesday: 911 calls made regarding shooting

    Dozens of 911 calls were received from the KDC/One on Smith’s Mill Road, in New Albany's industrial area. Callers said they heard gunshots, with one saying he had been shot in the neck. Police arrived and found six people had been shot.

    One was found dead inside, and the other five were taken to hospitals. Around 150 people were in the building at the time, and due to its size, many did not know the shooting had happened.

    2 a.m. Wednesday: Police said shooting was "targeted"

    In the first update from authorities, New Albany police Chief Greg Jones said the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack. Jones could not confirm a motive but said there were no reports of a confrontation before the shooting and said a weapon was left behind.

    4 a.m.: Police discover address with possible connection

    New Albany police obtained an address with a possible connection to Foster in Columbus’ Walnut Creek neighborhood. A Columbus police SWAT unit went there with a search warrant and made contact with multiple occupants.

    No residents or vehicles were found in connection with the shooting.

    5:30 a.m.: Foster identified as suspect

    Police identified Foster, an employee at the KDC/One facility, as the suspect. In a 7:30 a.m. news briefing, Jones said Foster was inside the building for several hours before the shooting and that security footage showed him entering and leaving.

    Foster reportedly did not drive to the building but rather got a ride. Police do not initially believe the person driving Foster is directly involved.

    10 a.m.: Foster arrested in Columbus

    Nearly 12 hours after the first 911 call was received, central Ohio law enforcement found and arrested Foster at an apartment complex in Weinland Park, a neighborhood in Columbus just south of the Ohio State campus.

    Foster is charged with aggravated murder out of Licking County, and a bond recommendation of $20 million is listed in a court document. New Albany straddles Franklin and Licking counties, with the warehouse in the eastern part of the village, which falls in Licking County.

    4 p.m.: New Albany officials provide update

    The first news conference since Foster's arrest is scheduled to take place at the New Albany Village Hall. Among the officials scheduled to give updates include Jones and New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding.
