Penguins’ Sidney Crosby being evaluated for upper-body injury

Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby missed practice Wednesday and is being evaluated for an upper-body injury, coach Mike Sullivan told reporters.

Crosby was injured during the third period of the Penguins’ 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

The Penguins captain collided with Luke Hughes and Erik Haula of the Devils and was favouring his left arm/hand as he skated to the bench. Crosby missed a few shifts before returning to the game.

Crosby has a team-leading 58 points (17 goals and 41 assists) in 55 games during his 20th season with the Penguins.

The 37-year-old from Cole Harbour, N.S., is set to captain Team Canada next week at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament in Montreal and Boston. Canada begins play next Wednesday against Sweden.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Pittsburgh, which is seventh in the Metropolitan Division with a 22-24-9 record. The Penguins next play Friday on the road against the New York Rangers.
