Platte Valley School District RE-7 will start construction on the new Platte Valley Middle School, new central office and all associated site work during spring break.
In November, the district located in Kersey passed an $89.5 million bond to build a new middle school and address $13 million in deferred maintenance costs. In June, before the bond issue passed, Platte Valley began “advanced design work” on its bond projects to get ahead of the large construction expected in the north Denver Metro area, according to the school district’s recent news release.
Major construction will come with inconveniences, but the school district crafted plans based on the community’s preference to maintain the centralized campus. The release detailed what families can expect with upcoming construction.
Construction plans
Crews will close off and set up the construction site — including the parking lot to the north of the middle school and the practice field to the east — at the start of spring break on March 10. Dirt work will begin shortly after the initial closure.
This will cause a change in traffic flow, parking and student drop-off and pick-up at the preschool/elementary and middle school, effective upon student and staff’s return from spring break on March 17.
Construction will include a new, expanded preschool parking lot with an expected completion date of August 2025. The new lot will accommodate 30 vehicles.
Plate Valley anticipates the new central office will open in January 2026, before the new middle school opens to reroute fiber and internet connectivity to establish a “hub” for the school district.
The new middle school, including the parking lot and student drop-off and pick-up area, will open in fall 2026. Until then, students and staff will continue operations at the current middle school.
Once the new middle school space opens, Platte Valley plans to tear down the current middle school to create a new field space and expand elementary parking and the student drop-off and pick-up area. However, these additional projects will come later and are expected to be completed around winter 2026 to spring 2027.

After spring break, families should arrive at the preschool/elementary and middle school from the east to the west due to blocked-off construction.
Clark Street will be a one-way, east to west, from 9th Street to 5th Street during construction. The one-way will include drop-off lanes on the curbside of the street and a drive lane in the middle.
Curbside parent drop-off areas will be relocated from the north to the curbside along Clark Street. The attached map shows the entrances for student drop-offs.

For bus riders, school entrances and exits at the middle school and elementary schools will remain unchanged. The walkways between the middle school and construction areas will have a protective barrier in place.
Families doing preschool pickup and drop-off will have seven parking spaces at the preschool entrance. Overflow preschool parking can be found in the gravel lot on the north side of the elementary school.
Construction will relocate elementary school teacher parking to spaces along 5th Street and middle school teacher parking to the stadium parking lot along 9th Street.
“The district appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding through this major construction project,” the release said. “This will be a significant improvement to the Platte Valley campus and schools when all is completed by spring 2027.”
