The Jacksonville Jaguars are bringing in another candidate for the offensive line coaching role under head coach Liam Coen.
According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN, the Jaguars are interviewing Minnesota Vikings’ assistant offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett.
The 2024 season was Sarrett’s first with the Vikings. Behind the Minnesota offensive line, the Vikings would rank 15th in ESPN’s run-block win rate metric and second in pass-block win rate.
Before joining the Vikings’ coaching staff, Sarrett was the LA Chargers assistant offensive line coach from 2021-2023 and the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach from 2019-2020.
While one the big points of emphasis for Coen as the Jaguars’ head coach will be getting Trevor Lawrence and the offense back on track, a key element in making that happen will be the offensive line, not only in giving Lawrence time in the pocket but in providing the offense with a strong running game to lean on.
As Coen pointed out during his introductory press conference, the play of the Jaguars’ offensive line has to improve.
“I think we would all agree that it needs to improve,” said Coen of the offensive line. I think that when you look at, first and foremost, the offensive side of the ball, you want that unit and that group–it’s the first thing that when you break the huddle the defense sees,” added Coen. “I want that to mean something. We want that to mean something and it will.
“That’s a mentality, that’s personnel, that’s scheme, that’s technique, that’s fundamentals, and that’s attitude. That’s something that we need to make sure we instill.”
In addition to Sarrett, the Jaguars have also reportedly interviewed the Rams’ Zak Kromer, the 49ers’ Cam Clemmons, and the Bills’ Austin Gund for this role.
