A person who was later arrested was detained by a group of witnesses after being seen setting a 100-square-foot brush fire Monday, Feb. 3 in Chatsworth. authorities said.
Around 4:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 2400 block of Woolsey Canyon Road, where the suspect was spotted lying face down while being detained by witnesses, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. The fire burned roughly 100 square feet of brush before firefighters extinguished it.
Witnesses followed the suspect in their vehicles after the suspect was seen walking away from an area after lighting a brush fire on Knapp Ranch Road and Woolsey Canyon Road.
Details about the suspect, including their name, age, and gender, were not released. The person was arrested on suspicion of arson and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 5.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosive Unit is investigating the fire.
