Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Sunday evening to discuss the proposed concepts for the new social protection package that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered to support and assist the most vulnerable groups.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsi, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity Margaret Saroufim, and officials from the two ministries.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister indicated that the government is continuing to work on developing a framework for the new social protection package.
He pointed out that President Sisi gave orders to make every possible effort to alleviate the burdens of living on citizens, in light of the “challenges and repercussions we face as a result of global circumstances.”
Madbouly stressed that the government targets low-income groups and is working to improve targeting processes for families deserving of support and assistance.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that the meeting reviewed the social protection package and the targeted segments, in preparation for presenting it to the President in its final form.
