Greeley police: Wife of Wyler’s shooter arrested for bringing him firearm, driving him back to the bar

The wife of a man who shot 59 rounds into a Greeley bar last November is in the Weld County Jail after police say she brought the man the gun and drove him to the bar.

Greeley police arrested Jairaye Federico, 33, on Jan. 24, nearly two months after the shooting. Along with aiding Cazares the night of the shooting, she also sold several ounces of cocaine for Cazares while he was in jail, according to an affidavit for her arrest.

She faces charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder due to extreme indifference, as well as three counts of drug distribution, according to Colorado court records.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Nov. 30, Greeley police responded to a shooting at Wyler’s Pub & Grill, 2835 27th St., Unit 513. A bartender, later identified as Leah Neugebauer, had been shot in the neck and was in critical condition.

Police received multiple reports of two men fleeing the scene, one carrying an AR-15 rifle.

When officers arrived, they performed life-saving measures on Neugebauer until emergency medical personnel arrived. She underwent multiple surgeries and is still recovering from her injuries.

A second employee was in the bar during the shooting but was not struck.

Initial investigation reveled that 32-year-old Jimmy Cazares was kicked out of the bar earlier in the night for fighting. He returned less than an hour later — after the bar closed — with the ghost gun AR-15 and fired 59 rounds into the front of the building, records show.

Ghost guns are typically assembled from kits or 3D-printed parts and lack serial numbers, making them difficult to trace.

Cazares later admitted to police that he shot at the bar because he was upset he had been kicked out and mentioned that he thought the building was empty when he returned, according to records.

During his arrest the night of the shooting, police reported finding 11.2 grams of cocaine in his pocket. Cazares faces two counts each of attempted first-degree murder after deliberation and attempted first-degree murder due to extreme indifference, as well as intent to distribute cocaine, a special offender charge for having the gun and the drugs, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and criminal mischief, according to Colorado court records.

He has a disposition hearing March 25 in Weld District court.

Just after 8 a.m. Dec. 2, the second man involved in the shooting turned himself in at the Greeley Police Department. He has not been arrested for his involvement nor charged, so the Tribune is choosing not to name him at this time.

The man told police that a conversation about prison and gang affiliations led to the fight earlier in the night, according to the affidavit. The man admitted to starting the fight, which police say “morphed” into a brawl involving numerous people.

After the fight, the man said he and Cazares left to Cazares’ mother’s house. The man said Cazares appeared “highly agitated” and called Federico — his wife — to tell her to bring him a firearm because he had been jumped, according to the affidavit. The man said Cazares started threatening Federico’s life, threatening to beat her if she didn’t bring the gun, police say.

Not long after, the man said Federico showed up with the AR-15 and drove the two back to Wyler’s, according to the affidavit. Police say the man told them that Federico drove away as soon as she dropped them off, then Cazares opened fire on the front of the building before the two fled on foot.

On Dec 12, police spoke with Federico. She originally told them she refused to pick Cazares up, but after police shared what the man had told them, she admitted to meeting Cazares at his mother’s house, but she insisted she did not drive the pair to Wyler’s, according to the affidavit.

Even after confronting Federico with video footage of her driving to the bar — as well as informing her that her DNA was on the gun — police say she remained adamant that she didn’t bring the gun to Cazares.

On Dec. 27, police again interviewed Federico at a home in the 3900 block of Yosemite Drive in Greeley. After further denying involvement, police say she eventually admitted to bringing the gun to Cazares and driving him and the other man from a house near the Greeley Mall to Wyler’s, according to the affidavit.

Police say Federico began to cry and told a detective that she felt horrible about her involvement since someone had been shot.

Police then questioned Federico about things she had sold for Cazares since he had been arrested the month prior. She said Cazares had told her to sell items from their house, along with a large amount of cocaine, according to the affidavit.

Police reviewed several jail calls between Cazares and Federico, including one from Dec. 11 in which they say Federico mentioned she had made several small sales and was up to about $4,500.

She admitted to selling the cocaine and told police she had made about $10,000 — which she was storing at Cazares’ mother’s house, according to the affidavit.

Lastly, she told police that there was roughly 7 or 8 grams of cocaine, as well as $1,000-$2,000 cash in the SUV she had driven the night of the shooting, records state. Police later executed a search warrant on Cazares’ mother’s house but recovered no money.

On Jan. 2, police searched the SUV and found $2,135 in cash, 15.8 grams of cocaine and a small scale with cocaine residue on it, according to the affidavit.

Due to the amount of money she said she made, police estimate Federico sold roughly 10 ounces — or 280 grams — of cocaine on Cazares’ behalf.

Federico was arrested on Jan. 24 and booked into the Weld County Jail, where she is being held on a $500,000 bond. Along with Cazares, she also has a disposition hearing March 25 in Weld District court.
