Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday received Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Government Spokesperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
Sisi and Youssouf agreed on the importance of joint action to ensure the restoration of security in Bab el-Mandeb Strait and normal navigation in the Red Sea.
The Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Mohamed al-Shennawy explained that Djibouti’s Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh to President Sisi, confirming his desire to foster relations with Egypt.
Sisi underscored their deep-rooted bilateral relations, and stressed his nation’s commitment to strengthening ties.
Shennawy said that the meeting reviewed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in all areas of mutual interest and confirmed the importance of exploring broader horizons for bilateral collaboration to achieve common interests and meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
He added that the discussions also touched on the situation in the Horn of Africa, including efforts to restore security and stability in the region, as well as developments in Somalia.
President Sisi emphasized Egypt’s unwavering efforts to support Somalia’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity.
