The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Mendocino Unit reported this week that it will begin conducting a vegetation management prescribed burn on the Shamrock Ranch near Laytonville.
In a press release Wednesday, Cal Fire described the burn as treating “approximately 2,000-acres of chaparral and understory vegetation within oak woodlands and mixed conifer habitats, creating a mosaic of variously burned vegetation and islands of unburned habitat” on the Shamrock Ranch, located in northern Mendocino County near Laytonville.
The burning was scheduled to begin on Thursday, Jan. 30, “and continue intermittently as favorable weather conditions present themselves, but end no later than Friday, Feb. 14. Burning will start at approximately 8 a.m. and conclude at approximately 3 p.m. daily.”
