The Chicago Cubs today announced a new addition to the bleachers for 2025, which will appear above the batter’s eye in centerfield: “The Yard.”
The idea seems to be to replicate a little backyard area for groups of four to eight (the full space has a maximum capacity of 50), where they can have food and drink, watch the game in a private space, but also kinda be in the bleachers. These private rental areas are additive to the bleachers, by the way, not taking away any of the previous space for general admission fans. So that’s good. The full release is at the bottom of this post.

— Bleacher Nation (@bleachernation.bsky.social) 2025-01-29T16:13:49.100ZLike I’ve said before when the private, rental, group areas have been added to the bleachers (the Hornitos Hacienda in left above the wall, and the Budweiser Patio in right under the video board), I have no problem with it as long as you’re not squeezing out general admission fans or doing harm to overall accessibility. If you pull that off, then all you’re doing is catering to different groups of would-be customers, creating new sponsorship opportunities, and increasing revenue that theoretically goes back into the team. Fine by me, even if I haven’t personally used any of those spaces – or the clubs around the concourse – myself. I would do it if someone invited me, of course, but otherwise I’m just content to pick a spot in the bleachers or get a seat in the bowl.
Of note: there has long been a disability seating area there in center field by the batter’s eye, and one of our first questions about this change was whether there would be an impact there. Well, you may recall that the Cubs recently settled a federal ADA case related to the renovations, the fruits of which include improvements to accessibility for fans with a disability. The Cubs were, then, making changes to the seating area anyway, so, in theory, the addition of these private spaces should have no impact on what was going to happen to the disability seating under the settlement with the Justice Department.
Also of note: we’ll have to see if anything changing in the area of the batter’s eye impacts offensive performance at the park! As we recently saw and discussed, the batter’s eye impact on park factors is probably more dramatic than we’ve realized.

The full release from the team:
‘The Chicago Cubs today unveiled “The Yard,” a new outdoor space complete with five new semi-private rental spaces designed to help fans enjoy the excitement of the Budweiser Bleachers as if they were in their own backyard. The Yard offers a more intimate vibe with high-top seating, fully stocked coolers and a smaller premier experience not previously available at the ballpark.
“Fans often tell us that Wrigley Field is their summer home, so we wanted to create a space that feels like their own backyard,” said Cubs Senior Vice President of Ticketing Cale Vennum. “The Yard not only offers a cozy and intimate setting, but also addresses feedback we’ve received about creating bleacher options for smaller groups. The historic Budweiser Bleachers have a unique energy unlike anything in Major League Baseball. The Yard sits in the middle of the action but provides an elevated gameday experience in an all-inclusive and reserved space for a few friends or family members.”
The Yard is located in the Budweiser Bleachers above the batter’s eye in center field. The new rental spaces are available for groups starting at four guests, with a maximum capacity in the space of 50 total guests. Each rental includes an exclusive table with high-top seating, unlimited beer, seltzer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks from a private cooler, and a ballpark meal for each guest with the option to select a Small Cheval burger, Vienna Beef hot dog or vegetarian option. The Yard provides the iconic bleacher view of Wrigley Field and is accessible up to 90 minutes before first pitch through the end of the game.
The Yard is the latest rental offering to join the Budweiser Bleachers. The Hornitos Hacienda in the front row of the bleachers above the left field wall is available for 15-50 guests, and the Budweiser Patio, down the right field line under the video board, is available for groups of 50, 100 or 150 guests.’
