A recall on Lay's potato chips has been escalated to the highest risk level by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), multiple outlets have reported.
On Monday, Jan. 27, a previous, "life-threatening" recall involving over 6,000 bags of Lay's Classic Potato Chips was elevated to a Class 1 recall, the FDA's most severe degree of possible health hazards presented by a recalled product.
According to the FDA website, a Class 1 recall is described as "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."

The initial recall was issued in December 2024, when the FDA announced that a limited number of 13-ounce bags (or "Party Size" bags) of Lay's Classic Potato Chips potentially contained undeclared milk.
"Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product," Frito-Lay warned in a statement posted last month.
The affected bags of chips—which were sold in retail and e-commerce stores in Oregon and Washington—were available for purchase as early as Nov. 3, 2024. Affected bags are marked with lot codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx and include a "Guaranteed Fresh" date that reads "11 FEB 2025."
With the chips still good through the upcoming Super Bowl on Feb, 9, now's a great time to double-check your stock.
Customers who are in possession of bags branded with matching information and who have allergies to milk should discard the product.
