The League of Women Voters of Greeley-Weld County is hosting an online membership meeting Feb. 20.
The meeting — which will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. — will feature a presentation on safeguarding immigrants’ civil rights, according to a release from the organization.
The meeting will be available at LWVgreeleyweldcounty.org or bit.ly/42mwIm2. The meeting ID is 823 478 7409 and the passcode is 447265, according to the release.
Speaker Shana Tracy — of the Arapahoe and Douglas Counties chapter of the League of Women Voters — will touch on how that chapter developed an action plan that enables people and groups to advocate for the immigrant community in the wake of the new immigration policies under the administration of President Donald Trump.
That plan includes distributing “Know Your Rights” cards in Spanish and English, organizing and supporting visible responses to any deportation raids or actions, as well as working with immigrant rights organizations, according to the release.
“It’s important that people know their rights,” Tracy was quoted in the release. “The Constitution applies to everyone, whether they are here legally or not.”
Nationally, the League of Women Voters supports the federal immigration laws that provide efficient, expeditious systems for immigrants to enter the United States, the organization said.
