KROGER’S official X account apologized to a shopper after she branded the store’s checkout policy as ‘idiotic’.
The interaction then forced another shopper to get involved calling Kroger’s decisions ‘awful’.
While self-checkouts are available in most retail stores, sometimes they aren’t always as convenient as poised.
The frequent need for staff approval, items not being weighed or found correctly, along with other issues, can often lead to longer wait times.
The wide rollout of self-checkouts across retail means that sometimes shoppers are inconvenienced more than intended.
And it seems this was the case for one Kroger shopper.
X BACKLASH
A less-than-pleased Kroger shopper took to X to share an image of their store.
The image shared showed a chaotic scene of shoppers with carts, with some queuing at traditional registers and most waiting for a self-checkout.
The shopper wrote in a post, “@kroger I suppose you still think converting almost all checkout lanes to self-checkout is still a great idea?”
She continued, “I know you’ll enjoy your giant bonus checks, not giving one thought to how idiotic this is.”
ended with the hashtags: #greedy #worstideaever #CustomerService.
It wasn’t long before the post caught the attention of Kroger and other shoppers.
Kroger responded with the message, “Hello Mindy! Thank you for reaching out, and we’re very sorry to hear about your store experience.”
The retailer then said, “This is not the experience we want for our customers to have.
“Kindly DM us and provide the exact store address with the zip code so we can escalate this. Thank you.”
This response soon prompted a reply from another shopper.
“This is exactly the experience Kroger wants for its customers. Kroger leadership is awful.”
Kroger delivery policy
Kroger offers same day delivery via Instacart
Shoppers can pay $6.95 for delivery within two hours.
Those who need something quicker can get items in as little as 30 minutes.
Orders must be a minimum of $10 to get quicker delivery.
Customers can save $15 on their first delivery order of $75 or more
There were no replies from either party after this.
It’s too early to tell if the retailer will take this feedback on board and reconfigure some of the checkout arrangements in their stores.
This comes after the retail chain was begged to rethink the store’s layout.
