The Kelly Clarkson Show is back in full swing after breaking for the holidays, but while most people typically use their time off in the winter to see family and friends and enjoy the season, that wasn’t the case for the show’s host.
Kelly Clarkson took to social media on Jan. 25 to answer fan questions, giving insight into her songwriting process and her relationship with her children. But at the top of the video posted on Instagram, she shared what she did over the holidays, revealing that she was “really sick.”

She shared that her New Year’s did not go as planned, saying, “look, I’m gonna be real with you. I had walking pneumonia my whole vacation.”
“I was really sick my whole winter break,” the singer continued, noting she “got better just in time to come back to work, so I guess a positive there.”

Though walking pneumonia is no walk in the park, with symptoms including cough, fever, and headaches according to the Mayo Clinic, Clarkson said there were some upsides.
“It was good because if you’re that miserably sick, but if you’re in the most magical place called Montana and it’s snowing and there’s a fire and my dogs are there,” she recalled, implying that the setting helped lessen the sting.
The illness is highly contagious, but Clarkson said that her children “were with their dad, so I was alone,” noting that “when you’re sick, it’s kind of nice to have that time.”
Clarkson shares daughter River, 10, and son Remington, 8, with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The former couple split in 2022.
The “Since U Been Gone” singer then quipped that she “had a hot toddy and I was fine.”
