Chapel Hill Police and North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigators are searching for and working to identify suspects after an overnight chase that included gunfire and crashing into parked cars at an apartment complex.
A release from Chapel Hill Police said a state trooper was pursuing a vehicle around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday when one of the vehicle’s occupants shot at the patrol car within town limits. The trooper, who was not injured, chased the car into the area of Timber Hollow Court and Mendel Drive, which is part of the Timber Hollow Apartment Homes community off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The police release said three suspects left the vehicle and ran away from the scene on foot. As of Saturday morning, the trio have not yet been identified or caught, and the investigation is ongoing.
Despite gunfire striking several other vehicles in the area during the incident, Chapel Hill Police said there are no reports of injuries.
Law enforcement is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to an arrest in the case.
