Southern California is home to an assortment of wonderful theme parks, but it can sometimes break the bank to take a family of four to them for just a day. Adventure City, a family-owned park in Orange County, has been the affordable theme park option for more than 30 years.

Adventure City is located a little more than an hour away from San Diego in the city of Anaheim. The park, which is open on weekends and select holidays, charges just $29.95 for admission, which includes a full day of fun.

What can you expect? Plenty of rides geared toward littles, including a train, roller coasters, carousel, airplanes and more. But, what makes the park truly special is the addition of a petting zoo that is completely free with admission! Guests can feed chickens and pet goats with the price of admission.

Other attractions include an arcade, rock-climbing wall and dance parties. There is also a restaurant that serves the American staples such as burgers, pizzas, hot dogs and fries. Of course, desserts such as ice cream, cookies and other treats are offered.

How to Plan for the Day:

Purchase your tickets online in advance.  While you’re on the website, review all the rides and their locations so you can set a game plan for the day. We did all the rides and saved Rewind Racers Coasters for last so that my 6-year-old could muster up the courage to ride the roller coaster that goes backwards! (My 6-year-old loved the ride and went again and again!) Get there at opening, which is 11 a.m. so you can do an assortment of rides and activities. We went on a holiday and the crowds did pick up after 1 p.m., but it wasn’t uncomfortably crowded. Plan lunch or dinner – There are plenty of picnic tables (with shade) in and outside the park so you can choose to have a meal inside the park or leave the park to nosh on a home cooked meal.  Budget? Food, drinks and souvenirs were considerably cheaper than major theme parks in Southern California. I was able to purchase a souvenir for my son for just $10! You can also purchase a popcorn bucket and a water bottle for affordable refills all day. Parking is also free!  Time: We did all the rides and attractions and had lunch in about 4.5 hours. If you decide to book a hotel nearby, you could leave for a nap and head back to the theme park before it closes.
