OAKLEY, Calif. (KRON) -- The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday that the mother of the man accused of killing Alexis Gabe will not face charges. Gabe's family told KRON4 it is "extremely disappointed" in the decision.
Gabe was an Oakley woman who was found to be dead after she was originally reported missing in 2022. Gabe's ex-boyfriend, Marshall Curtis Jones, was charged with Gabe's murder. Gabe was last seen on Jan. 26, 2022 and her remains were found in Amador County. Jones was killed by police in Washington state in June of 2022.
The DA's office investigated whether Jones' mother, Alicia Coleman-Clark, acted as an accessory after the fact in connection with Gabe's murder. Gabe's family met with police in December, and the Oakley and Antioch Police Departments pursued leads.
Suspect in deadly 7-car SF crash released from police custodyAuthorities investigated recovered clothing and attempted to locate a plastic bag containing Gabe's remains. The bag had been found in Amador County and was sent to Chico State for forensic testing, but police were never able to get their hands on the bag.
They also interviewed Coleman-Clark's boyfriend, searched her home and sought information about whether she helped Jones fly to Washington.
The DA's office said "some information raised suspicion about Alicia Coleman-Clark's potential culpability as an accessory after the fact," but they could not find sufficient evidence to charge her.
"We're confused as to why they think it's still not enough. That's what really infuriates me," said Gabe's father Gwyn.
A timeline put together by police detectives showed that Jones travelled to Coleman-Clark's house several times in the days after he allegedly committed the murder. He flew to Seattle on Feb. 2 to stay with his father.
Coleman-Clark was briefly detained on May 19 on suspicion of aiding and abetting, but she was not charged. The DA said in August of 2022 that she would not charge Coleman-Clark. She later initiated another investigation.
Gabe's family sent KRON4 the following statement regarding the decision not to charge Coleman-Clark:
“We are extremely disappointed. We just concluded a conversation with DA Diana Becton and Deputy DA Simon O’Connell. Despite having a substantial amount of evidence, they still declined to pursue charges."
The Alexis Gabe case became a national storyline that was featured on a true crime series.
