Emma Raducanu in search of new coach after split from Nick Cavaday

Emma Raducanu has parted ways with her coach of 14 months Nick Cavaday who took a step back to prioritise his health.

The Grand Slam winner is looking for her seventh full-time coach in three-and-a-half years since her Wimbledon 2021 breakthrough.

Raducanu will hope a new coach can direct her to another Grand SlamAFP

Despite her planned participation at the Singapore Tennis Open in a few days she is in no rush to make an appointment.

Since her US Open win in 2021 Raducanu was plagued by injuries which in turn saw her dwindle down the rankings from her July 2022 career high of No.10.

She was injured for most of 2023 after surgery on her ankles and wrists and eyed 2024 as a comeback year.

Raducanu first worked with Cavaday as a child and they resumed the relationship ahead of last season, where the 22-year-old returned to the top 100 following operations on both wrists and one ankle.

Raducanu spoke frequently about how positive the partnership had been and that she hoped it would be a long-term arrangement but it has now come to an end after 14 months.

Their last tournament together was at the Australian Open, where Raducanu reached the third round, and the British number two said: “I’d like to thank Nick for a great partnership over the last year and a bit.

“Especially being post-surgeries, he helped get me back inside the world’s top 60. I wish him all the best in his next chapter and no doubt we’ll stay in touch.”

Cavaday has struggled with his health recently, missing tournaments as a result.

He said: “I am very happy to have been able to work with Emma over the last 14 months.

“At this moment in time, it’s important for me to spend some more time at home and prioritise getting back to full health which is hard to do with the extensive calendar.

Swiatek against Raducanu equalled the Brit’s worst defeat which was by Elena RybakinaGetty

“I am glad Emma is back to being established on tour now with a ranking inside the top 60 and I look forward to seeing what she does from here.”

Raducanu appeared at the Australian Open but fell short against world No.2 Iga Swiatek who handed Raducanu the joint-heaviest defeat of her career.

It was a one-sided affair as the second seed thrashed the 22-year-old 6-1 6-0.

A defeat she should take solace in playing three gruelling matches in the competition despite suffering from back spasms in preseason.

However, she was in no mood to blame her long-standing injury problems.

“There are no excuses with the back or physically. Given the preparation we had, we have to be grateful to be in this position.”

An outlook that seems like she is laser focused for the season ahead.

Fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura who joined in the late stages of last year may take on a wider role until a permanent coach is hired.
