LOYAL diners have been left fuming after the abrupt closure of their local ice cream chain.
Employees were only notified just before the doors opened that the business would be closing for good.
Regulars of Friendly’s in Wilkes-Barre were left utterly confused when they found a paper sign on a locked door.
The sudden closure notice urged locals to head to other stores such as sites in Lebanon, Gettysburg and Norristown.
It also thanked those who found the sign for their “years of patronage”.
A post on Facebook claims some servers worked at the joint for 20 years and yet were faced to receive “nothing more than unemployment”.
The user also suggested there was “no notice” issued when the site locked its doors last Tuesday.
A post revealing the closure has gained nearly 2k reactions with many surprised at how sudden it seemed.
One user commented: “Such a total lack of consideration for all staff/ employees and even the regular customers who have supported this restaurant over the years!
“Thus wasn’t just decided in an overnight decision! Pathetic!.”
Another wrote: “That’s how most places seem to shut down. Suddenly!”
Someone else said: “Loyalty to employees seems to not exist anymore. Time and time again you hear these types of stories.”
An ex-employee commented: “Worked there for almost two years and it was probably my second favorite place of employment.
“Loved all the staff there. sad to see it go.”
A fourth put: “Miss friendlys ! All closed my area. My dad was truck for them for 20 years.”
Friendly’s, known for its ice cream, currently has 103 locations according to its website.
The online menu boasts birthday celebrations, lunch, dinner, kids meals and catering.
A range of burgers can be found alongside the captain’s platter, grilled cheese, club sandwich, salads and much more.
Those with a sweet tooth could opt for any of the fifteen desserts on offer.
