Belgian darts player Mike De Decker has risked angering the PDC having has refused to play at this weekend’s Dutch Masters.
De Decker had a breakout year in 2024, picking up his first TV major with a sensational victory at the World Grand Prix.
It saw him climb to 24th in the PDC Order Of Merit, and left him in the contention to make this year’s invitational Premier League line-up.
But Gerwyn Price, Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting were chosen as wildcard options to his annoyance, which led to him lamenting the decision in a furious outburst.
And now the talented Belgian is at the risk of being the eye of a new storm, having turned down an offer to play in this weekend’s Dutch Darts Masters.
The tournament takes place in Den Bosch this week, and would have seen him given an opportunity to get off the mark in the second World Series event of the year.
He was not invited to last week’s Bahrain Masters, which was won by Stephen Bunting, given his position in the PDC rankings.
But in a new brutal remark, De Decker has admitted he would much rather be selected for another leg of the World Series tour, criticising this weekend’s extravaganza.
He said on the Darts Draait Door podcast: “The World Series is not a tournament I was looking forward to anyway, and certainly not the one in the Netherlands.
“If you get invited, then you want to go to Bahrain or Australia. At least those are nice countries.
“Of all the places where those tournaments are, you don’t want to be invited to Den Bosch.”
De Decker’s scathing outburst will likely now be subject to intense scrutiny, given it his latest anger towards a specific tournament.
De Decker had a big year but was left out of this year’s Premier League line-upGettyHis previous onslaught aimed at the Premier League after missing out could see him slide further down the pecking order.
The Belgian still has plenty of time to prove his worth in the coming years, given he has shown already he has the talent to win both floor and TV events.
Price, who was selected ahead of De Decker for the Premier League campaign, believes player’s actions will not help if they want to be picked in the long-term.
He told talkSPORT: “Yeah, I mean every player. Dave Chisnall, Mike De Decker, they always have their opinions.
“They are right to have a say, but the PDC put in who they want to put in.”
“I think the likes of me and Nathan Aspinall have been consistent for the last 8-9 years throughout the PDC, not just the Premier League.
GettyVan Gerwen will defend his Dutch Masters crown this weekend[/caption]“I had a blip, and Nathan being injured, not being involved would have been a little bit harsh I think.
“Each to their own, I think winning one tournament or doing well in one event doesn’t really get you a ticket to get in.
“There’s a couple of boys who have won majors and haven’t got in, so throwing your toys out of the pram doesn’t really work.”
Michael Van Gerwen will look to defend his Dutch Masters crown on home soil this weekend, and fend off the fierce opposition from the likes of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.
