Emeryville: Man arrested for threatening 7-Eleven clerk who refused to refund pizza

EMERYVILLE — It’s not often that a cheese pizza causes a life-or-death situation, but that’s what a convenience store clerk reportedly encountered earlier this month.

The trouble started on the night of Jan. 2, when a man purchased a cheese pizza from the 7-Eleven on San Pablo Avenue in Emeryville, then came back to return it. When his request for a refund was denied, he allegedly threatened to kill two clerks at the store, authorities said.

The 35-year-old man was later arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail. Police say that he not only filmed himself making the threat, but that security footage from the store left little doubt: he allegedly made a throat-slashing gesture while yelling at the clerks.

No charges have been filed against the suspect, court records show.
