Russia offers spaceports to friendly developing countries
Russia is looking to boost its relationship with a number of friendly countries by building spaceports on their territory, website Business Insider Africa reports.

Yury Borisov, the general director of Russian space agency Roscosmos, said on Friday that Russia had extended offers to a number of countries, including India, China and Iran.

He added: “We have big plans with South Africa, with a number of other African countries such as Algeria and Zimbabwe, as well as Indonesia and Malaysia in Southeast Asia.”

South Africa, India, Iran and Indonesia are member states of the BRICS bloc, Malaysia is a partner state – with observation rights – and Algeria had been invited to become a partner state.

The spaceports would help countries develop their satellite industries.

Borisov said Roscosmos now provides ground infrastructure services.

He added that almost 70% of Roscosmos’ exports used to go to countries that are now imposing sanctions on Russia.
