THE New York Jets appear to be close to selecting their next head coach.
It’s safe to say Jets star Aaron Rodgers’ future will be affected by the organization’s decision on the head coach position.
It was revealed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will have a head coach interview with the Jets for a second time.
The Jets seem to have the goal of hiring Glenn as the insider added that the Jets will “not let him leave the building” unless a deal is reached.
New York is the first team to have a second interview with Glenn, whose Lions team was defeated 45-31 by the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round.
The Jets are six of seven NFL teams with vacant head coaching positions that have shown interest in Glenn.
The Woody Johnson-owned team also has a general manager vacancy, and it’s been reported that the team will interview Washington Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark for the role on Tuesday.
Newmark previously worked together with the Lions.
If Glenn and Newmark are hired, they will have an effect on Rodgers’ future with the franchise.
Rodgers had a poor year by his standards which led to the 41-year-old holding talks straight after the 5-12 Jets campaign ended over his future.
The four-time NFL MVP recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and said he has discussed his future in exit meetings with Gang Green’s ownership.
“I think everybody understands that it’s going to come down to a GM and a coach and myself,” said Rodgers.
“Whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards.”
Rodgers’ future in the NFL is up in the air with the official offseason approaching, and one executive thinks he will hang up his cleats.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, an AFC executive believes Rodgers will retire because there isn’t a “logical place for him to play.”
“But I’m just trying to think of a logical place for him to play and I can’t think of one,” the executive said.

“I’m guessing he doesn’t want to go to a rebuild.
“And if you’re a contender, I’m not sure they want to take on Aaron Rodgers and all that comes with that.
“So, he might just come to the conclusion that he’s done.”
Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury last season.
This campaign, he passed for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
As for Glenn, he has been the Lions’ defensive coordinator since 2021.
