A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after Kai Havertz’s wife was sent sickening messages on social media.
The arrest is part of an investigation into the social media abuse received by Sophia Havertz following Arsenal’s loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup earlier this month.
Havertz missed a penalty in the Gunners’ shootout defeat at the Emirates Stadium on January 12.
Sophia took to Instagram after the match to share screenshots of vile messages aimed at the couple’s unborn child she had received on the platform.
The model is currently pregnant with her and Havertz’s first child.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed on Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy from St Albans had been arrested.
The teenager has since been bailed whilst inquiries continue, the force confirmed.
In one screenshot Sophia shared, an Instagram user had said: “I hope you have a miscarriage.”
Another post revealed a different threat vowing to ‘slaughter’ their child.
Following the incident, Arsenal hired data technology firm Signify to determine the identity of the abusers.
An investigation into the messages was subsequently launched by Hertfordshire Police.
Mikel Arteta also called for action to be taken against those who post abuse online earlier this month.
