Two weeks after the Eaton fire started near Altadena on Jan. 7, the Altadena Town Council is scheduled to hold a virtual council meeting.
The fire has burned more than 14,000 acres, destroyed thousands of structures and killed at least 17 people. Four members of the town council, including Chair Victoria Knapp and Vice Chair Nic Arnzen lost their homes in the Eaton fire.
Altadena Town Council serves as an advisory board to Supervisor Kathryn Barger. Councilmember Connor Cipolla said last week that while the council does not hold any official powers, they will be part of conversation moving forward.
Cipolla’s home survived the fire. He and others in Altadena have already begun thinking about how to rebuild Altadena but also how to prevent future disasters.
“The infrastructure both water and power and the way that it’s rebuilt needs to be different to ensure that this doesn’t happen again and if it does happen that we can have a more robust response to it,” Cipolla said last week.
The meeting will be streamed live on YouTube starting at 7 p.m.
On Monday the National Weather Service announced a red flag warning due to potentially powerful Santa Ana winds, the third such warning for the area this month.
It was set to start at noon Monday and continue until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
