Oklahoma football general manager Curtis Lofton announces resignation

Oklahoma will be looking for a new general manager to run its football program, with Curtis Lofton announcing on Thursday on Facebook that he’ll be stepping down as the Sooners’ GM on Feb. 1.

In an expected move, Lofton took to social media to send a heartfelt message to the Oklahoma football community. The message read in part:

“I have decided to step away from being the General Manager at OU, effective immediately, with my last day being February 1st. I am pursuing ministry and striving for true greatness by creating impact for the Kingdom,” wrote Lofton, who had served as OU’s GM since 2022.

“I want to take this moment to thank Athletic Director Joe Castiglione, President Joe Harroz, and Head Coach Brent Venables for their unwavering support, leadership, and guidance. They’ve been instrumental in shaping my journey, and I am forever grateful for their influence in my life.”

Lofton began as GM at Oklahoma at the same time that Sooners head coach Brent Venables arrived. Venables went 22-17 during the 3 seasons he spent with Lofton as GM, which included a disappointing 6-7 campaign in 2024.

Lofton starred at Oklahoma during his playing days. He played linebacker under Bob Stoops and earned All-America honors during the 2007 season.
