The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) hasn’t heard from Virat Kohli yet regarding his availability for the Delhi vs. Saurashtra match. The status of the two other international players named in Delhi’s 41-man probable squad for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Harshit Rana and Rishabh Pant, is already known.
Harshit won’t be able to feature as he’s part of the India vs. England series, while Pant has made himself available. The wicketkeeper is also expected to lead Delhi against Saurashtra, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll do so against Railways, whom Delhi will face next.
The away game, which will be played in Rajkot, will be a do-or-die encounter for Delhi, who are placed fourth behind Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, and Railways in Elite Group D. According to the Times of India, DDCA will announce the squad for the Saurashtra match on January 17, but they don’t know whether Kohli will be available for selection or not.
“A selection meeting will happen in the afternoon tomorrow and it’s likely that Rishabh Pant will be the skipper for the away game versus Saurashtra,” a senior DDCA official told the Times of India.
Ending his horrible 2024 Test year with a poor outing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there were calls for his participation in domestic cricket. India cricket team head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has also hinted at wanting ‘all players’ to feature in domestic cricket if and when possible.
Kohli’s latest sightings show that he’s currently in India. However, his availability for Delhi or in the Ranji Trophy remains uncertain. It’ll be fascinating to see whether he participates, considering that Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are also expected to play for their states.
