A suspect in a shooting that killed a young man and left three others wounded in Vista has been charged with murder and attempted murder, authorities said Wednesday.
Prosecutors on Tuesday filed multiple counts against Jose Ulices Luna, 20, in connection with the death of Antonio Calderon Mendiola, 19, and the wounding of three other teens, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 20, the victims arrived at Palomar Medical Center, suffering from gunshot wounds. Mendiola died that morning.
Two of the other victims, ages 17 and 18, were hospitalized in critical condition. The fourth, a 16-year-old, was admitted in stable condition.
Officials have not disclosed what led investigators to identify Luna as the suspect and have revealed no possible motive for the shooting.
He has been jailed in the South Bay on several apparently unrelated charges since August, including carjacking, robbery and evading a police officer.
