Every other Monday, Aaron is joined at 8:30 a.m. by Tom Jensen, the director of Public Policy Polling, for a longstanding regular segment called “What We’re Thinking,” looking at recent survey numbers and discussing what they tell us about American public opinion – election-related and otherwise.
This week, Tom and Aaron discuss an interesting result from 2024: a slight shift to the left in North Carolina, relative to the rest of the U.S. (Caused primarily by Democratic gains in exurban areas like Johnston and Gaston Counties – but there was also a notable leftward shift in the mountains, among voters most affected by Hurricane Helene and the federal response.) This means North Carolina is getting closer to being the ultimate swing state, where the presidential election could turn – not to mention the ongoing fight for control of the U.S. Senate. where North Carolina is getting more and more important for Democrats.
Also, Tom discusses his own petition to the Chapel Hill Town Council, calling for more pedestrian-friendly crosswalk signals at major intersections.
