PINEVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A person is dead following a shooting involving an officer in a parking lot in Pineville Saturday afternoon, officials say.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of Tavern 51 on Pineville-Matthews Road. Police were dispatched at 3:49 p.m. in reference to a 911 call alleging a person with a weapon was making threats.
Chief Hudgins with Pineville Police Department says while on scene, an officer and the suspect got into an altercation in the parking lot of the bar. The officer discharged his weapon, striking and killing the suspect.
Police did not say whether the suspect displayed or had a weapon.
NC SBI is investigating the incident. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation.
