The Mendocino Unit of Cal Fire reported Thursday that it sent resources to Southern California to help support firefighters battling the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County.
In a press release, Cal Fire MEU noted that it has sent: Engines, crews, a helicopter, dozers and overhead to support and (offer) cover behind the resources fighting.
During previous fires in Butte County, the Ukiah Police Department sent officers to help protect property and maintain order, but when asked Thursday if his department had sent resources to the fires in Los Angeles County, UPD Chief Cedric Crook said he knew that local firefighting resources had gone to assist, but that “no law enforcement had gone, as we have not been requested.”
Megan McFarland, the spokeswoman for Pacific Gas and Electric, also reported Thursday that “the company is sending crews, equipment and to aid agencies and utilities in the area,” noting in a press release that “PG&E dispatched two Blackhawk helicopters to Los Angeles to support CalFire’s firefighting efforts,” which arrived Wednesday afternoon.
She added the utility “also mobilized 25 Safety and Infrastructure Protection Team crews to Southern California to provide mutual assistance at the request of the LA Department of Water and Power. Those crews will assist LADWP with electric and water asset protection by applying fire retardant on poles and other equipment, checking fire-damaged utility equipment and making the area safe for LADWP crews to restore power. Some electric distribution crews also will be traveling to Southern California to help with restoration.”
