It’s one or the other if it goes to a hearing, and the cases can be ugly.
Here’s hoping the sides can sort this thing out, but it doesn’t exactly bode well for your hopes that they could come together on a long-term extension, eh?
MLBTR had projected $15.8 million for Tucker’s salary, and we don’t know what the final offers were today before the filing. It’s possible the Cubs and Tucker were both close to an agreement, but without one reached, they then have to pick the number they believe they can prove to the arbitrators. Tucker will be a Cub in 2025. Nothing changes on that front. This is part of the process under the CBA. Not the first time it’s happened, not the last time. And, again, the Cubs still might ditch the file-and-trial thing and settle in the coming days/weeks.
It’s just annoying that they couldn’t come to a deal today, and since they are the ones who went out and traded for him – the new superstar in their organization – most of the blame here is going to rest with the Cubs. Just the way that particular cookie crumbles.
