Ian Cunningham is a Tennessee Titans GM Candidate (Again)

Chicago Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham is on the Tennesee Titans’ radar as a candidate to lead their front office.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that the Titans have sent over an interview request to speak with the right-hand man to Bears General Manager Ryan Poles:

If you’ll recall, Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham secured two interviews with the Titans when the GM gig opened up last time. The ownership structure remains the same. However, there is a question about whether this would be a true promotion for Cunningham. Keep in mind that the Titans promoted Chdad Brinker to President of Football Operations in 2024 (h/t Pro Football Talk) and appears to have top billing on the organizational food chain. This adds a little intrigue to this situation. Stay tuned.

Is Ian Cunningham a fit for the Titans?

You might recall that I fingered Ian Cunningham as a possible interview target for the Tennesee Titans’ general manager vacancy shortly after the team fired Ran Carthon. Two days later, Cunningham comes up as a person of interest in the Titans’ search for a new GM. Sometimes, I am amazed by how stuff adds up when you put things together. Even still … no one should be surprised by this development. Back in November, it was reported that Cunningham was expected to pop up as a GM candidate. Because even with the Bears back-sliding in 2024, Cunningham has built a strong résumé beyond his time in Chicago. Hence, it makes sense that teams will still inquire when gigs open up.

The big difference between when the Titans GM job was open last time and now is that Tennessee owns the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Ownership of that pick (and top picks in the ensuing rounds) makes this job opportunity that much more appealing. So while this isn’t a great QB class, there are a handful of intriguing options. Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders top the list of quarterback prospects. Surely other viable options will emerge when workouts and the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis take place.

It is worth sharing a reminder that the Bears could be in line to receive draft compensation for Ian Cunningham‘s departure if he leaves for a job that is deemed to be a promotion. Considering the needs of Chicago’s football team, any new draft capital would be welcome.
