AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are investigating after a body was found after a fire in a wooded area of southeast Austin.
Austin Police responded to an agency assist hotshot call around 3:50 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Nelms Drive, near Interstate 35 and William Cannon Drive. Police said the Austin Fire Department extinguished a fire at a transient camp and found a man dead.
Police said detectives are investigating this as a suspicious death but not a homicide. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and there is no suspect in the death.
Police previously told KXAN that the death was ruled a homicide.
An APD spokesperson said transient camp fires happen on a regular basis, especially during the winter time.
