North Carolina fifth district Congresswoman Virginia Foxx says she is doing fine after slipping and falling down the stairs Friday outside the U.S. House chamber. The 81-year-old Republican sustained “a few small cuts” but was otherwise fine after the ordeal. Foxx was seen by medical personnel to assess the extent of her injuries.
Late Friday, Rep. Foxx took to social media to thank people for their prayers, while quipping: “I’m a mountain woman, and we’re tougher than a $2 steak.”
Fellow Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina responded by calling Foxx ‘One tough cookie.’
Foxx’s injury was noted by multiple news outlets who were on hand for Friday’s vote for U.S. House speaker.
A bleeding Rep. Virginia Foxx is currently receiving medical attention – holding her nose as she receives aid – appears to have fallen down marble stairs on West side of House. Lots of blood but officer tells me she’s okay as press is cleared from area. She is conscious/ talking.
