The 1 Thing Adults Will Love About Disney’s Newest Cruise Ship

While the new Disney Treasure cruise ship was designed with families in mind, it's not solely for them. If you value excellent service, food and drinks, then there is plenty for adults—not just those who love Disney or who have kids—to delight in onboard the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. "We always think of guests of all ages and so it's important for us to be able to accommodate adults only and be able to have the spaces for them to enjoy," Shelley Gold-Whitiak, director of hotel operations/lodging at Disney Cruise Line, tells Parade.I recently returned from my own trip aboard the Disney Treasure, and there's one spot, in particular, I think all "grown ups" will love. Find out what you need to add to your itinerary ASAP, as well as some other spots on the ship that all "Disney adults" need to visit.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Haunted Mansion Parlor, and I can confirm that the immersive space lives up to it—and you don't need to be a Disney Parks fan in order to appreciate just how cool the lounge is. Between the sights and sounds, the parlor feels like an extension of the classic ride and features Easter eggs, including the wallpaper, sconces and Donald Duck chair.

"We wanted you to feel like you were in the attraction," Disney Imagineer Danny Handke tells Parade. "So it has to be about the music. It has to be the sound design and illusions happening all around you. And so we created this kind of new bar category for Disney Cruise Line, which is like this theatrical musical bar experience."

Handke adds, "Once we landed on that, then we kind of followed the same structure of the attraction, where ghosts are trying to break through, but you can't see them, you can only hear them. So then we go to a seance led by Madame Leota, and that takes us into the full swinging wake, where we hear the classic song 'Grim Grinning Ghosts.' So go to a big party and then reset for the next funeral."

The centerpiece in the room is a ghost fish aquarium, an idea that Rolly Crump, a late Disney Imagineer, had while working on the Museum of the Weird in the '60s. "The Museum of the Weird never came to be, but we saw that, and were like, can we bring this life in dimension?," Handke shares. "Like, can you see this from multiple sides? And that's where this whole idea came from. So it's really cool to take something that was part of our past and then bring it to life."From the moment you open the serpent door handle of the Haunted Mansion Parlor, it's a hauntingly amazing experience, and the place for grim grinning ghosts...or, you know, for you, your friends or significant other, to come out and socialize. There are, of course, plenty of other must-visit spots on the Disney Treasure that will make your trip an unforgettable adventure. Yolanda Cade, vice president of communications and public affairs for Disney Signature Experiences, would tell a group of friends planning a trip and adults, who don't have children, to "absolutely" go on a Disney Cruise because "there's no experience like it"...and she's right. "The number one question that I get is whether or not I can go on a Disney ship without my family or without kids," Cade shares with Parade. "We have a lot of solo travelers, and I absolutely encourage them to take a Disney cruise, because the level of entertainment that you have, the number of offerings of things to do, just the community of people here, common gathering places, you absolutely will always have something to do."Cade continues, "Whether you want to sit and relax, there are quiet places where you can read a book, catch up, reflect, take a dip in the pool. Adult-only pools and adult-only spaces."

Other Offerings Adults Will Love on Disney Cruise Line's New Ship, the Disney Treasure

    1. Periscope Pub

Venture 20,000 leagues under the sea at the Periscope Pub. The space with submarine-styled interiors, which becomes adult-exclusive at night, was inspired by Walt Disney’s 1954 film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and the former attraction. Grab a drink, order bites (the wings are delicious) or watch a sports game under a "glass" ceiling that, fun fact, features footage from an aquarium at Epcot and from the Disney Treasure's sea trials.

    2. Scat Cat Lounge

Listen to tunes while sipping on cat-tastic cocktails at this piano lounge inspired by The Aristocats. The space has nods to the 1970 film, hidden Roqueforts and a paw-covered piano. Katrina Alvarez, principal interior designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, reveals to Parade that the team studied the dance moves from the "Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat" scene and that the piano has three different dance moves, including Marie's two little paw prints in the upper corner."I think every space has its like own unique identity, but this one is a lounge where you can come enjoy some really nice Disney music, or sometimes not Disney music by these amazing pianists that we have on board, delicious drinks," Alvarez says. "Just like a fun spot to come with your friends or family."

So our fine dining options for our guests give them an opportunity to do something that maybe they don't have a chance to do at home," Cade says.
