A brush fire near Otay Mountain north of the U.S.- Mexico border was fully contained today, authorities said.
The fire was reported around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday near the mountain, according to Cal Fire San Diego. The exact location of the fire was unclear.
It grew to 25 acres that night but firefighters had stopped its forward spread.
A caller from Chula Vista informed the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office of seeing a group of vehicles atop the mountain setting off fireworks, which might have started the fire, FOX5 reported.
“Fire crews made significant progress throughout the day,” Cal Fire San Diego posted Thursday evening on X. “The fire is now 100% contained and resources are being released. Firefighters will continue to patrol the area into tomorrow.”
