The Chicago Bears end a stretch in which they play three games in 10 days ends tonight on Thursday Night Football.
While the Bears have nothing to play for but pride and NFL Draft position, the Seattle Seahawks – who provide the competition tonight at Soldier Field – are holding onto faint playoff hopes. ESPN’s postseason calculator gives the Seahawks a 19 percent chance to make the playoffs. A win against the Bears will help Seattle’s cause. But a loss will do serious damage.
Now that we have set the table, here are three things I want to see from Chicago’s football team tonight:
1. Caleb Williams is 568 yards away from setting a new single-season passing record for a Bears quarterback. Chicago’s QB1 will likely fall short of becoming the first 4,000-yard passer in franchise history in 2024. But in a football world where you have to crawl before you walk, perhaps toppling Erik Kramer’s 3,838 passing yards would represent a start toward checking bigger boxes in the future.
2. It would be nice to see some players prove that they aren’t just playing out the string.
3. The Bears did not leave their Week 16 game against the Detroit Lions healthy. Two starting offensive linemen won’t play tonight and there is a real chance that we have seen the last of Teven Jenkins in a Bears uniform after suffering a calf injury that is serious enough to keep him out of tonight’s game. I’m still rooting for this team to come out of these last two games healthy. But I know that is going to be a challenge..
