Merry Christmas! And Other Bears Bullets

Merry Christmas, dear reader. I hope today is wonderful, blessed, cozy, peaceful, and whatever you need it to be.

I wasn’t expecting to do a ton of Bears content here today, but then this Pete Carroll news popped up and I couldn’t help but weigh in with some thoughts. There is no need to do the Pete Carroll deep dive on Christmas morning. But that time will come. Later. The Bears don’t play until tomorrow. But there is NFL action to be mindful of today. Happy viewing! As an appetizer to tomorrow’s Boxing Day game featuring the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks, the NFL has two games today with the Kansas City Chiefs visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers (noon CT) and Baltimore Ravens traveling to square off against the Houston Texxans (3:30 p.m. CT). Both games are streaming exclusively on Netflix. I hope the NFL has better success here than the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson boxing event. In case you missed it, here is the crew that will bring you the action on Christmas:

    — Netflix (@netflix) December 11, 2024 There are a bunch of my favorite NFL analysts and personalities here, so part of me looks forward to seeing what this looks like. I believe this is the first of a series of games we’ll get on Christmas because I can’t imagine the NFL being one-and-done on this front. It isn’t tough for me to envision the NFL double-dipping in the future if Christmas Eve-Christmas Day falls on a Thursday-Friday or Friday-Saturday in the future. Old friend alert: The Baltimore Ravens elevated wide receiver Anthony Miller for the team’s Christmas Day game against the Houston Texans. Miller, a Bears second-round pick in 2018, has just six catches, 25 receiving yards, and one touchdown since being traded from Chicago in 2021. (Pro Football Talk) Dan Pompei (The Athletic) makes a pitch for Ron Rivera to be considered a candidate for the Bears head coach opening. My brain goes in two places here (1) Ron Rivera deserves a better landing than a return trip to Chicago and (2) I do not believe he is the best fit for this particular job. Get the Super Bowl XX champion a gig that has an established offensive personality and a defense that needs some tinkering. For instance, the Dallas Cowboys (if they moved on from Mike McCarthy) would make a ton of sense to me. With that being said, I hope the Bears find a way to talk to Ron Rivera. The long-time coach has found success in his stops as a top boss and has navigated some choppy waters in Carolina and Washington. Perhaps Bears management could talk shop with Rivera and get some insight into what this franchise is doing wrong. I wouldn’t be opposed to Rivera being around in some sort of advisory role. This organization could use as much oversight help as it can get. (Photo by Quinn Harris/Getty Images) Injuries kept these players from participating in the Bears’ Tuesday walk-through practice: Defensive back Elijah Hicks (ankle/foot), running back Travis Homer (hamstring), left guard Teven Jenkins (calf), defensive back Tarvarius Moore (knee). You can check out the full injury report update here. Another injury up The Bears did put left tackle Braxton Jones on IR with a broken ankle. (Sun-Times)

Brett sends his best from the BN Cubs department. Over in the Bleacher Nation Hockey Department, Tab Bamford takes stock of the Blackhawks at the Christmas break. I miss when watching the Bulls was part of my Christmas Day tradition:
