A passenger plane on its way to Russia has crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, with 67 passengers and five crew on board, Kazakh authorities announced.
Twelve people have survived, authorities said, and the cause of the crash is not immediately clear.
Unverified video appeared to show the plane, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, plummeting towards the ground before bursting into flames.
Kazakh authorities said that the blaze had been put out and survivors taken to a nearby hospital.
The Embraer 190 aircraft, flight number J2-8243, had been flying from Baku to Grozny, the capital of Russia’s Chechnya republic on Christmas morning, Azerbaijan Airlines said.
It was forced to make an emergency landing approximately 3 km (1.8 miles) from Aktau, with Russian news agencies reporting the plane had been rerouted due to fog.
