Choose fresh Christmas trees and keep them well watered to make it less likely for them to dry out and catch fire. Use energy-efficient LED lights that produce less heat and reduce fire risk. Inspect Christmas lights and ornaments for any damage and replace any frayed cords or broken bulbs. Ensure lights used for outdoor decorations are designed to withstand the elements. Avoid overloading circuits. Follow manufacturer guidelines. Keep electrical cords clear of pathways and away from flammable materials. Make sure your yard is free from dry leaves, branches and other combustible materials. Create a defensible space by maintaining a fire-resistant zone around your home by trimming shrubs and trees. Monitor local fire conditions and regulations especially during dry spells.
