Gordon Ramsay Reveals Controversial Christmas Opinion: My Mum Will Be Furious

Gordon Ramsay is known for being opinionated—the celebrity chef has made a career out of stating what he thinks people should, and shouldn’t, be doing in the kitchen.

And it turns out that the strong-willed ideas don’t stop professionally, given that he recently revealed that his mother likely won’t be happy with his controversial take on festive meals.

The Hell’s Kitchen star spoke candidly with The Times about the upcoming Christmas holiday and how he plans to spend it with loved ones, calculating that he’s looking at a group of around 25 people for Christmas dinner.

But when it comes time for the menu, he’s decided not to go with the traditional route. “Beef Wellington is the new Christmas Day turkey. There, I’ve said it,” he told the outlet.

Ramsay continued, stating that people need to “bin the bird and go all-in for a proper showstopper. My mum will be furious because she loves the Christmas traditions, but a beef Wellington is such a thing of beauty,” he said, declaring it to be “so much more delicious” than the traditional poultry.

The Masterchef judge, who will have a big blowout bash with 300 of his closest friends on Christmas Eve, also opened up about what his wife and children can expect for their more intimate celebration on Christmas Day.

The day's meals will start with an 11 a.m. brunch of scrambled eggs, homemade brioche, smoked salmon, and shaved white truffle. “We’ll be there around the table for at least 90 minutes and enjoy a couple of glasses of buck’s fizz or champagne before heading out on to the common for a long walk,” he shared.

No Christmas lunch will be served, but people will be able to help themselves to ham “in the middle of the table,” which Ramsay plans to garnish “with some lovely ripe fresh figs and beetroot that’s been peeled and roasted in advance with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.”

The Kitchen Nightmares host also hinted at roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts to accompany the beef Wellington. To finish, a Christmas bombe, made with a Swiss roll, cherries, meringue, and cream. It will take some effort to put the dessert together, but don't worry about baking the cake yourself, said Ramsay.

To quote another famous television food personality, Ina Garten, store-bought is fine.
